ST. KATERI TEKAKWITHA - 16" STATUE
Known as the "Lily of the Mohawks", Kateri Tekakwitha was born in upstate New York in 1656. Her father was a Mohawk chief and her mother was an Algonquin who was raised Catholic. Kateri was orphaned at age 4 by a smallpox epidemic that left her with poor eyesight and a badly scarred face. She led a life of prayer and penitential practices. She taught the young and helped those in the village who were poor or sick. In 1679 Kateri made a vow of perpetual virginity and consecrated her life to Jesus. She died at the age of 24 and was canonized on October 21, 2012. This statue is made of pulverized onyx and measures 16" tall.
