Our Lady of La Salette appeared to the young visionaries, Melanie and Maximin, on September 19, 1846 in the mountains in southeastern France. They first saw Our Lady seated upon a rock, weeping with her face in her hands. Our Lady expressed her deep sadness at the hardness of heart of those who were rejecting Our Lord and His Commandments by becoming secularized, not respecting God's Name, and not observing every Sunday as a holy day. She warned of the grave consequences of sin, and begged for conversion of life and return to prayer.
