ASH TAG (EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE) 3-DAY DEVOTIONAL CANDLE
This devotional candle is designed to burn for three days. It is encased in a sturdy glass holder with an image of three crosses on the front designed to remind us of Ash Wednesday and the ancient Jewish tradition of penance and fasting. The practice includes the wearing of ashes on the head. The ashes symbolize the dust from which God made us. As the priest applies the ashes to a person's forehead, he speaks the words: "Remember thou art dust, and unto dust you shall return" or "Repent and believe in the Gospel." Ashes also symbolize grief, in this case, grief that we have sinned and caused division from God.
On the back is the Penitential Act that reads:
Examination of Conscience
Reflect in silence on the past day or week. How have you experienced God’s protection? How have you relied on your own resources rather than putting your trust in His care?
Penitential Act
(for several praying together)
I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.
May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. Amen.
Votive measures 8"H x 2"D and is made with odorless paraffin wax.Although originally designed as a meditation for the Lenten Season, this is also an appropriate reminder for the month of November and particularly the 2nd day of November, which is dedicated to the Holy Souls in Purgatory. It is a time when we remember in a special way, all those who, though “assured of their eternal salvation” may still need to “undergo purification” that makes possible “the holiness necessary to enter the joy of Heaven” —
Catechism of the Catholic Church, n. 1030.We suggest having your candle blessed by a Priest when you receive it so it can be used as a sacramental.
The tradition of the Church has always placed importance upon sacramentals such as blessed candles. One of the most remarkable effects of sacramentals is the virtue to drive away evil spirits whose mysterious and baleful operations affect sometimes the physical activity of man. These candles were custom designed and created exclusively by EWTN.
