SILVER GIOTTO CROSS WITH ICONS
This icon crucifix is made of hand-tooled silver-plated copper and mounted on a solid wood plaque. It features 24kt gold accents and hand-polished red quartz stones. This design was inspired by a crucifix painted by Giotto around the year 1290 — one of the first true depictions of Christ on the cross — and shows Jesus’ arms outstretched with knees bent and pulled by the weight of His body.
This particular icon of the Crucifixion also includes the following embellishments:
- A depiction of God the Father in the center at the top along with the martyrs Anthimus, Cosmas, Leontius, and Damian.
- At the end of the cross beam is Our Lady on one side and St. Joseph on the other.
- Standing beside Our Lord we see St. Peter holding the Keys to the Kingdom and St. Paul holding the Scriptures.
- At the bottom of the cross is a baptismal scene symbolizing the connection between baptism and the death and resurrection of Christ; linking the act of baptism to the promise of Eternal Life through Christ's sacrifice.
Measures approximately 8 ½”W x 12 ¼”H and includes a sawtooth hanger on the back for display.
